–––––– § Flavor Notes § ––––––
This Baozhong tea opens with a bold and elegant aroma of gardenia. Beyond the floral fragrance, it carries a subtle umami taste with a gentle mineral note—never briny, but delicately savory. The tea liquor is rich in pectin, creating a smooth, soft, and slightly viscous mouthfeel that envelops the palate. In the finish, there’s a lingering sweetness reminiscent of asparagus juice—subtle and refreshing.
–––––– § About the Tea Variety § ––––––
Baozhong tea is one of Taiwan’s unique and historically significant tea varieties. The phrase “North Baozhong, South Dong Ding” reflects its former dominance in the northern tea regions of Taiwan.
Baozhong is mainly produced in the Wenshan area of Taipei, including the regions of Pinglin, Shenkeng, and Shiding. Its leaves are rolled into twisted, deep green strips. The infusion is a honey-green golden color, with a high and elegant aroma that may evoke notes of orchid, magnolia, or the native Taiwanese tree Chinaberry (Melia azedarach). The texture is smooth and the flavor is gentle and floral—Baozhong is prized for its fragrant, lightly sweet profile.
Common cultivars used to make Baozhong include Qingxin Oolong, Jin Xuan, Cuiyu (Tsui Yu), and Qingxin Damao. Each brings its own charm, offering different aromatic expressions and flavor nuances.
