This tea is crafted from the standard Qingxin Damao cultivar, showcasing a classic leaf appearance and a clearly defined varietal fragrance.
The initial taste is sweet and smooth, with a honeyed aroma and the signature hay-like notes characteristic of the Damao cultivar. In the mid-palate, the liquor becomes silkier, revealing subtle notes of Asian pear and a clean, refined sweetness. The finish is marked by lingering honeyed undertones and a refreshing coolness—hallmarks of a high-grade tea with elegance and clarity.
–––––– § About the Tea Variety § ––––––
Oriental Beauty is one of Taiwan’s most iconic teas, also known as Bai Hao Oolong, Five Color Tea, Pengfeng Tea, or Champagne Oolong. It is mainly grown in northern Taiwan, particularly in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli.
Its signature flavor comes from the bites of the green leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana), which trigger the development of distinctive honeyed and ripe fruit aromas. Oriental Beauty has long been beloved in the tea market, and legend has it that Queen Victoria of England, upon tasting it, was so amazed that she gave it the name "Oriental Beauty."
Many cultivars can be used to produce Oriental Beauty, including Qingxin Damao, Baimo Hou, and TTES No. 17, with Qingxin Damao widely recognized as the finest in quality.
The ideal harvest period for Oriental Beauty is from June to July, between the solar terms Mangzhong and Dashu. The leaves must be picked by hand, using only one bud and two tender leaves. The quality depends heavily on the level of leafhopper interaction, or zhuóyán—the bite marks that define this tea’s unique aroma.

For every tea we select, Hermit’s Hut creates a dedicated tea card that records each tea’s processing details, historical context, the philosophy of the tea maker, and its flavor profile. Through careful testing, we document steeping times and temperatures from the first to the fifth infusion to help each recipient experience the tea’s full character and the giver’s sincere intention.
With the tea card in hand, there is no need for many words.
Trust your own senses. Take the time to understand a truly fine tea, and let it speak—of mist and soil, rain and mountain, and the thick, weathered hands of the tea artisan who shaped it.
Our packaging takes inspiration from traditional fish baskets and knotted rope carriers, using textured pale gray paper and sleek, modern cuts. Each elegant gold-foiled label clearly displays the tea’s flavor number (intensity level) and tasting notes, allowing gift givers to effortlessly match the tea to the recipient’s preferences.
