Description

–––––– § Flavor Notes § ––––––

This Dong Ding Oolong is crafted using traditional methods and features a distinctive honey aroma, thanks to the natural bites of the green leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana). Compared to typical heavily roasted Dong Ding teas, this selection offers a softer, honeyed sweetness.

The first sip reveals a gentle honey fragrance that fills the senses, followed by a warm, ripe fruit aroma in the tea liquor. The body is smooth and full, with rich layers of flavor. The bottom of the cup releases notes of brown sugar and orchid, while the finish brings nutty undertones and a hint of fruity acidity that stimulates the palate and leaves a sweet, lingering aftertaste. The depth and complexity of this tea make it truly remarkable.

–––––– § About the Tea Variety § ––––––

Dong Ding Oolong is one of Taiwan’s most iconic tea varieties. It originated in Lugu Township, Nantou County, around 700 meters above sea level, on a mountain called Dong Ding (literally “Frozen Summit”). The unique geography, often enveloped in mist, inspired its name.

Known for its high oxidation and heavy roasting, Dong Ding Oolong offers a rich and captivating flavor profile that has earned it widespread popularity. As a result, the term "Dong Ding" has come to represent not just its place of origin but also a style of processing followed across Taiwan.

The tea is traditionally rolled into tight, ball-shaped leaves—one of Dong Ding’s signature features. The brewed liquor is golden and bright, with aromas of roasted warmth and ripe fruit, a noticeable sweetness, and a lingering mouthfeel. These elements combine to make Dong Ding Oolong a proud representative of Taiwan’s classic fine teas.

–––––– § Teas by Hermit's Hut ––––––

For every tea we curate, Hermit's Hut prepares a dedicated tea card, meticulously documenting the production process, historical background, philosophy of the tea artisan, and flavor profile. Through repeated tastings, we record steeping times and temperatures from the first to the fifth infusion, ensuring that every recipient experiences the tea at its finest.

With the tea card in hand, no further words are needed.

Simply trust your palate and take the time to get to know a fine tea. Listen to what it reveals—stories of mist and mountain, earth and rain, all passed through the hands of devoted tea makers.

Our packaging is inspired by traditional fish baskets and knotted rope pouches, rendered in tactile light-gray paper and clean, modern cuts. The refined gold-stamped label clearly displays the tea's flavor number (intensity scale) and tasting notes, making it easy for the giver to choose the perfect tea based on the recipient’s preferences.
