This Ruby Red (TTES No. 18) tea opens with a striking and uplifting aroma of mint, paired with the warm spiciness of cinnamon. The tea liquor is rich and rounded, carrying a subtle milky undertone and a lingering honeyed sweetness. After finishing the cup, a refreshing, cooling sensation remains on the palate.
When chilled, the liquor turns slightly cloudy, resembling honey water—this is due to the tannins coagulating at low temperatures, which return to their original clear reddish-orange hue once reheated.
With its delicate honey sweetness and minty freshness, this tea is the perfect summer refreshment. Ruby Red tea shines whether served iced, cold-brewed, or as a warming milk tea simmered in winter.
–––––– § About the Tea Variety § ––––––
Ruby Red, also known as TTES No. 18, is a black tea cultivar developed over 50 years by the Taiwan Tea Research and Extension Station. It is a hybrid of a native Taiwanese wild mountain tea and a large-leaf Assam variety from Myanmar.
The brewed tea has a vivid, crystal-clear red hue, with a smooth, sweet, and full-bodied flavor. Its signature mint and cinnamon aroma is both elegant and unique—earning it numerous awards and accolades. Notably, it has captured the attention of tea connoisseurs around the world, including Professor Tei Yamazaki of Ochanomizu University in Japan.
After Jin Xuan, Ruby Red is considered one of Taiwan’s most internationally acclaimed tea varieties.
